Photosensitizer drug delivery via an optical fiber.
An optical fiber has been developed with a maneuverable mini-probe tip that sparges O(2) gas and photodetaches pheophorbide (sensitizer) molecules. Singlet oxygen is produced at the probe tip surface which reacts with an alkene spacer group releasing sensitizer upon fragmentation of a dioxetane intermediate. Optimal sensitizer photorelease occurred when the probe tip was loaded with 60 nmol sen...
متن کاملDelivery of High-Stability Optical and Microwave Frequency Standards over an Optical Fiber Network
Optical and radio frequency standards located in JILA and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) laboratories have been connected through a 3.45-km optical fiber link. An optical frequency standard based on an iodine-stabilized Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm (with an instability of ;4 3 10214 at 1 s) has been transferred from JILA to NIST and simultaneously measured in both laboratories...
متن کاملA hand-held fiber-optic implement for the site-specific delivery of photosensitizer and singlet oxygen.
We have constructed a fiber optic device that internally flows triplet oxygen and externally produces singlet oxygen, causing a reaction at the (Z)-1,2-dialkoxyethene spacer group, freeing a pheophorbide sensitizer upon the fragmentation of a reactive dioxetane intermediate. The device can be operated and sensitizer photorelease observed using absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. We demons...
متن کاملAn artificial photosensitizer drug network for mitochondria-selective photodynamic therapy.
We report a new class of photosensitizer drug networks that can home into mitochondria and provide geospatial phototoxicity for tumors. We take advantage of the cleavable chemical network between the photosensitizer drug and poly(ethylene glycol), and find a significant increase in the efficiency of the multimeric drug network in mitochondria uptake and tumor inhibition.
متن کاملNumerical study of all-optical slow-light delays via stimulated Brillouin scattering in an optical fiber
We study numerically all-optical slow-light delays in room-temperature single-mode optical fibers induced by stimulated Brillouin scattering. We consider the propagation of a pulse through a cw-pumped Brillouin fiber amplifier, where the carrier frequency of the pulse is tuned near the Stokes resonance. Pulse delay and broadening of the Stokes pulse are studied in the small-signal and gain-satu...
